Okay so, the Aztec Empire was located in the central and southern regions of what is now present-day Mexico. The Aztec Empire grew during the 15th and 16th centuries, and it started to stretch from the Pacific Ocean all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. The Aztecs lived in the central Mexican Valley, therefore most everything that they would either build or do was based on the environment. The Aztecs always had to adapt or get used to their surroundings which had a huge impact on their culture. His name was Ahuitzotl [ahuit-zotl] and he was the supreme king, he ruled until 1502. During his time as the Tlatoani, he expanded the Aztec empire to its largest size it’s ever been. Montezuma II [Mon·te·zu·ma] the 9th ruler of the Aztec Empire, maintained the Aztec Empire until February 1519, when Hernán Cortés and his Spanish troops showed up on their land (Aztecs). A few years prior to the Spanish showing up in the Aztec Empire, the capital was having some unusually natural disasters. In 1517 Tenochtitlan [te-nawch-tee-tlahn] had an earthquake and Lake Texcoco [Tex-coco] flooded the capital (Miller pg. 40). The Aztecs had believed that these disasters were a sign that their empire was going to be destroyed sometime in the future. When Cortés and his Spanish soldiers came, the Aztecs were at their highest of power they’ve ever had. The Spanish took over the Aztec empire on August 13th, 1521, ending the Aztec empire (Aztecs).
