1. Conk is straight hair, which came from a commercial hair straightener. Malcolm thought that conking his hair was a step into sophistication. He thought the conk was for the upper class black people and if he got it, he would be accepted into society. Malcolm describes a conk as an emblem of

Additionally, during the bombing, one of their soldiers becomes badly wounded in his leg and will most likely die or never be able to walk again. There is a similarity between this young soldier and the injured horses, made apparent by the comparison the author makes between the two. The young soldier, while human, is helpless after getting injured and will likely die if he is not helped soon.
As the sun rises on the Great Plains, the rays gently touch Iktomi’s eyes, waking him up. Iktomi is dressed the part of a Lakota Brave, but inside he does not act the part of a Lakota Brave. He is a trickster; self-absorbed, vain and dishonest, eventually driving away any friendly smile come to be his friend. Navigating the Plains alone, he has become an outcast and constantly makes silly decisions further adding to his infamous reputation.
In Chapter 1, the overall main idea that the author writes about is Gantos lifestyle in St. Croix leading him to the drug culture. The drugs being available everywhere especially the dope never made him think that it would lead him to trouble or jail. He talks about the consequences that St. Croix is dealing, the racism between blacks and whites. Rosemary was like Jonas because she was curious and eager to receive more memories. The Giver gave her only good memories in the beginning, which I think was a bad idea because, then, all there is left are bad memories. He loved her and didn’t want to hurt her, but they both knew it was her job to receive all the memories- even the negative ones.

Patrick Lin’s article Here’s a Terrible Idea: Robot Cars with Adjustable Ethics Settings discusses the “moral dilemma” (Lin, 2014) that autonomous vehicles introduce into the world. The root of the ethical problem is in the event of an inevitable collision or crash who does the vehicle make the decision to save. The question suggests the concepts of egoism and utilitarianism, (both previously discussed in this course), the different possibilities based on what split-second decision the autonomous vehicle makes, and the fact that there is no easy solution to this dilemma.
