At Brown University, I want to take full advantage of the Business, Entrepreneurship and Organizations (BEO) program, exploring how it gives students the opportunity to approach an organization through three major concepts: economically, sociologically, and technologically. By combining the sociological approach from the BEO curriculum with courses in Gender Studies, I'll be able to tackle one of the world’s most concerning issues in large organizations: the lack of minority groups such as women, the LGBT community, people of color and indigenous individuals in leadership positions. With the support of the Pembroke Center, for instance, I'll be able to boost the Vice Versa, a new not-for-profit organization founded by a Schwarzmann Scholar and I. Vice Versa aims to shape organizational cultures to openly attract more gender and race diversity within higher levels of a business’ hierarchy; deconstructing such cultural problem by its roots, and therefore, avoiding the return of this issue in its original form.
