Kelsey McOmish Mrs. Russo English 12 27 March 2023 Baba and Amir live their everyday life in Pakistan where their bond falls in and out of very similar patterns constantly. Amir fights every day for his father's acknowledgment and fails most of the time while Baba is too occupied with other things. Amir feels he does not fit the standards his father wants, Baba is into sports while Amir is into reading. Baba and Amir continue to face many challenges which eventually lead up to their bond being stronger than ever once they moved to America. Amir expresses his feelings through different scenarios that don't always end up in his favor. Amir had set up his best friend Hassan so Baba would turn against him. Amir continues to fight for Baba's recognition. Amir expresses how he looks up to his father; he's very proud and honored to be his son, “Amir is proud of his father's success and notes that while people frequently seemed to doubt his father Baba would prove them wrong” (Bloom 19). Amir knows how strong and capable his father is, but he also knows what his father wants in his son, and often Amir isn't so sure that he can be that. Amir never lets the fact people doubt his father get to him and regardless believes that his father can always achieve anything desired. In Amir’s early childhood, Baba sold an orphanage, and during his speech on opening day, “He motioned to [Amir] to hold his hat for him and [Amir] was glad to because then everyone would see that he was my father, [Amir’s] Baba” (Hosseini 15). This follows up with how proud Amir is that Baba is his father, especially as a child. Amir and Baba were put to the challenge of picking up everything and leaving immediately. This was a hard, yet new chapter for both of them. This whole situation grows the two closer than ever. After arriving in America Baba and Amir start grinding together to make money. They would go to the flea markets and try for the fewest bucks. Once in America, Amir enrolled in college, which to Baba was unheard of. With very different interests and goals “Baba tries in vain to get his son to excel at sports, then to at least be interested in sports” (Bloom 20). Amir focused on writing and reading and becoming an author. This was something Baba never seemed to understand. After Amir brought the initial idea of enrolling in college to become a writer Baba proceeds to say “Stories, you mean. You'll make up stories.” (Hosseini 134). This goes further into how Baba just couldn't exactly wrap his head around that's what his own son wanted to do. At this point in their lives, Amir would never share his stories with his father, but to find out later on Baba was told these stories and really enjoyed every minute of them. Amir finally felt at peace and like his father didn't frown upon his
