Babe Ruth: an Artist What is an artist? Can it be defined as a person who is exceptional at drawing or painting? Or can it be a person who is skilled at something they do? Dictionary.com states, “An artist is a person whose work exhibits exceptional skill (Artist Definition).” Therefore, anyone who has a job that requires skill is an artist. Especially if that person plays a professional sport, like baseball. Just like art, baseball also has its greats. Babe Ruth, however, was a one-of-a-kind athlete. He was one of the most talented hitters of all time. He would fascinate millions of fans with one swing of his bat. His personality and ongoing, outstanding kindness to his enthusiasts was what made him loved and looked up to by many people going through rough times. Considering these reasons, Babe Ruth is an artist because of his inspiration to many fans of his, and because of his extreme baseball talent. “Babe Ruth was the ideal hero for a world of consumption (Peter Levine, Baseball during the Great Depression).” Babe Ruth played ball during the pre-depression era, which meant that most of the country was in poverty. His undoubted best achievement is having a lifetime record of 714 homeruns hit! That stat is still being compared with to today’s top hitters. Those homeruns made the Yankees famous, and made 1,000,000 fans come to Yankee stadium in one year! After that, they built a new stadium and nicknamed it “The House that Ruth Built.” His mastery of the bat made baseball so much more exciting to watch and add to the fact of him being an
