The Great Bambino I have learned so much about Babe Ruth throughout my life. My grandfather has been a huge Babe Ruth fan ever since he watched him play as a kid. He would tell me stories about how he would go and watch babe play in Yankees stadium. He told me that one time when he was at a game. Babe asked the hotdog vender to bring him a hotdog from the dugout. He has thoroughly convinced me through stories and statistics that he is the greatest baseball player ever. Both Sports Illustrated and Sporting news have named him the greatest baseball player of all time. He was drinking way too much and his marriage was falling apart. Ruth became very sick and very out of shape. On a road trip, he actually collapsed because of the amount of hot dogs and alcohol he was consuming. He was a mess and no one could control him. Ruth missed the first part of the season and the New York Yankees ended the year second to last place. Ruth would come back strong in the 1926 season. He ended with 47 home runs, a .372 batting average, and 146 runs batted in. In the 1927, the New York Yankees would have one of the greatest lineups in the history of major league baseball. There line up was stacked. They had so many MLB greats like Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, Mark Koenig, Bob Meusal, Earle Combs, and of course Babe Ruth. The Yankees would end up winning 110 games and Babe would hit sixty home runs. The Yankees would end up winning the World Series in 1927 and 1928. The Yankees became the most popular sports team in America. They had more money, better players, and better facilities than every other team. In 1932, Babe would experience his last World Series performance. His team would sweep the Chicago Cubs. During this World Series, Babe would do something that every person in American would be in awe over for years and years to come. In his last hit of the World Series, Babe pointed his bat to center field and jacked a monster homerun. Announcers, teammates, and players were speechless. Because of Babe’s success in World Series game, the MLB honored him with the Babe Ruth Award in 1949. This award will forever be given to the player that performs the best during the World Series. In 1933, Ruth would be elected to the first MLB All-Star game. Of course, Babe would hit the first home run ever in an All Star game. During the 1933 season, Babe would be given one more chance to pitch in a Major League Baseball game. He would pitch a complete game
