Babe Ruth hit 714 home runs in his entire career. Though there were many baseball players in the 1920s, Babe Ruth was one of the most well known players in that time period. Babe Ruth is one of the best players to ever play baseball. George Herman Ruth Jr., which is Babe Ruth’s real name, was born in Baltimore, Maryland on February 6, 1895. His parents, Kate Schamberger- Ruth and George Herman Ruth Sr. owned a pub. When Ruth turned 7 his parents realized that he needed to be in a more strict environment. Also he got into a lot of trouble that his parents could not deal with along with their pub. They sent him to a Catholic orphanage, where the monks introduced him to baseball. Jack Dunn, the owner of minor leagues Baltimore Orioles, took interest in Ruth’s pitching skills and signed Ruth’s baseball contract when Ruth was 19. Ruth’s teammates after that called him “Dunn’s new babe” as a joke, which stuck which earned him the nickname “Babe” Ruth. Shortly after his contract was signed he went up to the Major Leagues. In the same exact season no other player hit more than 19 home runs and only one team together hit more than Babe did alone. In his next season he beat that record and hit 59 home runs.
