Babe Ruth was one of the best baseball players to ever live. He was born on February 6th, 1895. As a child he got in lots of trouble with skipping school and causing trouble in his neighborhood. Jack Dunn was the owner of the minor league Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles recruited players and made them good enough to play for the major league team called the Boston Red Sox. The law at the time, when Babe Ruth was nineteen, stated that he had to have a legal guardian sign his baseball contract in order to play professionally. Jack Dunn agreed to become Babe Ruth’s legal guardian. This resulted in his other teammates calling him “Dunn’s new babe.” That’s how he came up with the name “Babe” Ruth.
