Babe
“The Great Bambino”

Babe Ruth was known as one of the most memorable baseball players because of his slugging. Normally pitchers cannot hit very well, but this was not the case, he could slug like no other. His batting average was .342 (“Babe Ruth Stats.”) The highest batting average you can get is a .400 so to be fifty-eight points off of a perfect batting average is not something that is easy to accomplish. Babe Ruth was not always known as Babe, his name is actually George Herman Ruth Jr, and he was born on February 6th 1895 into a privileged family. He was named after his father, who along with his mother decided that he was too much work so 7 years later sent him to an orphanage, where he discovered his passion for baseball, …show more content…

In a game against the Senators in 1917, he was not pitching very well and threw 4 balls to the hitter. He then responded to the umpires call by yelling at him. The umpire threatened to eject him, so he went to the mound and threw a ball as hard as he could, the catcher couldn’t catch it and it hit the umpire in the ear. But it didn’t stop there, he was challenging fans to fights. Many say he held little regard to those who are ranked above him. He held the most homeruns in a baseball career until 39 years later when Hank Aaron beat his home run in 1974. He set many records in his time as a baseball player, so many that he was inducted into the Baseball Hall Of Fame in 1936, (“Babe Ruth Hits..”). Sadly in August of 1948 The Great Bambino would no longer be with us. When he was younger he tended to smoke cigars, they didn’t know at the time that tobacco was cancerous, nor did they know what cancer was. The Great Bambino took his last breath on August 16th 1948. Babe died of esophageal cancer, or throat cancer, (“Babe Ruth Dies.”).
Babe Ruth will always be one of Baseball’s greatest players and will never be forgotten because he left a legacy. For many baseball players today Babe was their inspiration. One of the things he will be known for besides his baseball abilities was his way with words. “Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game” One of the most famous sayings by the hero, and a lesson generations to come will never forget.
