Satire Rhetorical Analysis Essay This satirical masterpiece composed by the writers at Babylon Bee titled “In Bold Anti-Trump Statement, Pelosi Rips up Bible” lampoons the widespread antithetical belief held by the Democratic Party against Donald J. Trump. Falsely portraying Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House, ripping a KJV Bible in half in an attempt to show her opposition to the presidential candidate Donald J. Trump. Being released in the heat of the 2020 election, June 3, the Bee garnered significant attention from the public. The last two sentences that finish off this release act to strengthen the Bee’s thesis and add a bit of lighthearted humor, efficiently noting its satirical nature. From the responses sent in by their audience, it can be inferred that the writers at Babylon Bee did a phenomenal job using multiple rhetorical choices to portray their thesis without offending anyone by blatantly stating lies. The deepfake that they used to show Pelosi ripping a bible in half acted as a great hook for the article and while being a falsified photo did not demean the position held by Pelosi nor did it demean her character. The use of emotional appeal, Pathos, when speaking of a political situation, was a very smart choice and allowed the Bee to lampoon the democratic party in a way that would be hard to refute. While some may find the blatantly falsified quotes to take away from the credibility of the piece, that was their intent. This is a Horatian satire. Its main purpose is to evoke a smile on the face of its audience, and exaggeration and irony serve greatly to accomplish that
