In 2003, an awesome, action packed movie went into theatres. The movie brought back two of hollywood’s favorite actors, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, for their second time together. Bad Boys 2 is a thrilling movie that takes the viewers on an adventure with the two main characters using great conflict, action, and characterization. Bad Boys 2 sets off by bringing back Mike Lowry (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) in an opening scene with them dressed as members of the white supremacist group, the KKK (Ku Klux Klan). This leads to the first type of conflict in the movie when Mike shoots Marcus, grazing his buttocks trying to save him from getting killed. Little did Marcus know that Mike and Sydney had started seeing each other when Mike went on a “work trip” to New York City. While he was supposed to tell Marcus about his interactions with Sydney, Mike failed to do so completely making the interactions at the dinner table awkward. Finally, when Marcus figured out about the two of them, he angrily confessed that he was going to be putting in a transfer after the assignment that they were currently on. This was not the only thing that Sydney was hiding unfortunately. “Complicating matter is Marcus’s little sister, who is not just undercover for the DEA -- she’s also the undercover dating interest of Detective Lowrey” (Morganstern par. 5). Howe told the readers that Bad Boys 2 was pretty much just like the first of the series only difference being that the movie is louder, longer, and the actors get paid more (Howe par.1). So obviously it didn’t make it hard to have good characterization for Mike and Marcus, but what about Sydney? Or Johnny? Well the writer did a great job with these two as well. Sydney was brought into the movie perfectly and continued being built up into the character she was supposed to be, which was an undercover DEA agent. The writer also did a great job with the portrayal Johnny Tapia with being the kingpin drug lord. The development and portrayal of his character is exactly what a viewer would have wanted to see, with the big shot personality and the actions he would take as if he was untouchable, he was the perfect
