Bad Influence On Osvaldo Cruz

So far while reading monster, we have learned a little bit about Steve and his background. We have also learned about the situation that landed him in jail and some of the people that were involved in the same situation. We have also learned a little bit about the characters that he hangs around.

The characters that he put himself around that we know about include, Richard “Bobo” Evans and Osvaldo Cruz. Bobo is definitely a bad influence for Steve. Bobo is 22 years old and was the mastermind and control of this horrific crime. He was the one that knew the in’s and out’s to escape and made a young boy feel threatened. Bobo has already been in jail for a cutting someone in his neighborhood. Richard “Bobo” Evans is someone that is always in trouble or looking for trouble based on the book.

The next character is Osvaldo Cruz. As I was reading the story, Osvaldo made me question his actions and thought process. When I question how a person thinks or acts, this is a sign of a red flag. Osvaldo seems as if he is trying so hard to lead himself down the wrong path and get himself into a lot of trouble.Cruz is only 14 years old and on a fast track to getting in trouble. It is proven that when you are put in a certain environment with expectations that you may not agree with, you follow them anyway. Being in a gang at a young age is something expected or even respected in his community. Steve seems as if he doesn’t really want to known as the community thug or bully. He seems like a normal 16 year old boy that just wants to be himself. Steve is stuck in a community where if he at least doesn’t act like he is tough, he can be killed. Although we don’t know all of his wrongdoings yet and everyone he has put himself around, I have a feeling that he is forced to hang out with these bad
