Moving onto the critical analysis portion, Stephen E. Ambrose’s work will be explored in regards to the quality of the writing and its actual value it holds. First, Ambrose’s thesis/purpose of writing Band of Brothers was to relay the story of Easy Company, it must be noted that (Ambrose, P. 312) Ambrose says “We do net pretend that this is the full history of the company, which is impossible due to the men killed in war, but rather this is as close to the true story of Easy Company as possible”. So, in retrospect this book was the creation from various in person and phone interviews, letter correspondence, wartime letters and diaries that was given to Ambrose by the men of Easy Company. Band of Brothers did not fall victim to the same treatment as Pegasus Bridge, the feel from the book ties the reader into the story emotionally, almost like if the reader was right along the soldiers in battle. Ambrose can play the readers emotions quite well since for the majority you are form the third person perspective, watching over the shoulders of the men, and every so often are launched right into the perspective of a soldier telling what they experienced from a battle scene. An example would be from (Ambrose, P. 83), the attack on the German Artillery Battery is wrapping up and the men are falling back, suddenly it changes to winters perspective “Here was this one wounded Jerry we were leaving behind trying to put an MG on us again, so I drilled him clean through the head”. Another great connection that Ambrose gets across was whenever the war was starting to end and they are in contact with surrendering German troops was how “human” they really are.
