Banned Book Report The book Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell has topics that involve abuse, sexual topics and alcohol. The book has been banned from schools because of these and parents have been concerned about what their children have been exposed to regarding this book. Although this book talks a lot about sexual topics and has language that is not for the younger aged readers, it should not be banned from high school. Maybe in seventh or sixth grade but I think from eighth grade through high school this book should be allowed in libraries. The topics they talk about are a little on the edge but it’s things that students are going to learn about. The main characters are Eleanor, Park and Richie, which is her stepdad that she does not get along with. This story is about a girl named, Eleanor that moves back into her home with her mother and stepdad, Richie. Eleanor has never gotten along with her stepdad and he is the reason she wasn’t living with them. She meets and falls in love with a boy named Park, the story is about Eleanor’s not so lavish past, her not very ideal relationship with Richie and how she overcomes it with Park by her side. This story has lots of talk about alcohol abuse and the over use of it and the affects it has on people, and it could influence young kids to want to try it out. It also has lots of sexual topics. (Publishers Weekly) The topics discussed could lead to many questions about sexual topics and readers may ask their peers instead of their parents. Parents should be aware of these topics if their child is reading this book and they are under the age restriction. If this book does not follow your religious beliefs, then you should not read
