Based on the evidence in Paul Lewis’s biography about John Smith, it appears that he was trying to lie to get publicity for “introducing Pocahontas to English language and the Bible”. The suggestion I made about John Smith’s first document before Pocahontas was famous was that John Smith doesn’t mention Pocahontas at all and it says nothing about John Smith being in danger. Then in J.A. Leo Lemay’s exert he says “John Smith had no reason to lie.” Therefore it shows that John might have lied to get famous over something that really didn’t
While reading the book, Pocahontas and the Powhatan Dilemma, I learned a great deal about early Indian life, in a way I had not before. Of course, in grade school you learn about “Pocahontas” but not in the way Camilla Townsend describes her. I started this book not really knowing what to expect besides to learn more than I had previously known. I know recently a lot about history has come up for discussion in ways it has never before. Native Americans and Africa Americans have been a topic of discussion for the past few years, shedding light on their history.

Hero or Villain: Andrew Jackson Andrew Jacksons presidenicy was very complicated. He was a man that believed that the white folk should be treated evenly. The poor sohuld get momey like the rich, and the rich should get money the same way as the poor. Being a normal man, the rich disliked him for his opinions that did not fit the rich men and women their needs. The conflict with the Bank, and the Indian Removal act made Jackson a hero in my opinion.
For example, Jackson passed the Indian Removal Act, which made the Indians (specifically the Cherokee) to move even further to the west. The intended audience for the painting is the public. The purpose of this party is to elicit sympathy for the Indians in the Trail of Tears. The point of view is from an American painter in years much later than the event. Jackson taking the Indians habitat away from them and reserving it for white people is a direct violation of their rights.
Andrew Jackson was said to be a divergent president in many ways, especially for his unique background compared to the wealthy ones of the previous presidents. He started off as an orphan and made his way up to becoming a general in the military, then became a frontier and started working in office soon later. After the War of 1812, Jackson went to war against Native Americans. He was widely popular for killing Native Americans. When settlers wanted more place to farm they wanted to the Native Americans. Jackson promised to back white settlers who wanted the Native Americans lands regardless what treaty he signed with them. Congress created the Indian Removal Act of 1830 to honor Jackson’s promise.
The True Story of Pocahontas: The Other Side of History was written by Dr. Linwood “Little Bear” Custalow and Angela L. Daniel “Silver Star”. It is about the relationship between the Powhatan tribe and the English settlers of the early 1600’s. The fourth chapter of the book talks specifically about the crumbling relationship between the Powhatan and the English and how each of them has their own story of what really happened. The chapter begins with the alliance between the Powhatan and English slowly fading away. John Smith, one of the English leaders, started to demand food from the Powhatans.
His government and a chief of an Indian tribe called the “Cherokee” signed the Treaty of New Echota in 1835, stating that all of the Cherokee lands now belonged to the United States for $5.6 million dollars. Many of the Indians did not want to leave, so resisted the treaty and stayed in what was once their land. Then, his government forced all of them out of their homes without time to gather belongings. This resulted in four thousand deaths of the Cherokee Indians due to starvation, freezing temperature, and disease (Alchin 1). Although some might say that Andrew Jackson built the United States and should not be labeled by what he did wrong, referred to violence and quarreling when something went wrong which resulted in cutting off many valuable lives.
The catholic understanding of human dignity draws upon the principle that human life is the foundation of the vision of our society. Nonetheless, anything that threatens this principle (which in simpler terms states that all human life is valuable) is therefore a failure in our execution of not only this principle but also in maintaining human dignity. Townsend is known for her multiple books mostly focusing on the lives of indigenous people and their stories. This book, however, goes through the specific life of Pocahontas herself. The author uses not only tragedy but also romance when recapping Pocahontas’ life throughout the years. The book successfully teaches and emphasizes the struggles Pocahontas and her people went through and educates the audience of the real history behind this time period.

In this painting, five men present a draft of the declaration to Congress. John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin were painted from memory.
