Barack Obama speech, “A More Perfect Union” during his presidential campaign was in response to sermons from his used to be pastor Jeremiah Wright for which was offensive and unpatriotic to most people. Obama in his speech reminds the people that issues with race with people with different backgrounds has affected everyone in America and this issue is drowning out the more important issues that are at hand. Obama strongly opposes to what Jeremiah Wrights statement but at the same time can relate to the emotion behind it all and won’t remove Jeremiah Wright from he can understand with and he has known. He explains in his speech about his heritage that he is a son of a African man “Barack Obama, Sr” from Nyang’oma Kogelo, Rachuonyo District, Kenya Colony and a white woman ,”Ann Dunham” from Wichita, Kansas. This resulted in allowing the slave trade to last another twenty years leaving any solution to be found by future generations. This made life difficult for a group of people in America who were trying to get by in life as they faced hardship and discrimination from another race of people mostly the white population. He also states that some of the people in the white community can understand the anger and fear that comes from discrimination. Obama speaks that change can happen if all Americans work together so in result can heal old deep wounds of racism among the population. He ask the people of America to no longer watch and hear of our fall of our country and people who are treated unequally but to step in and to help in any way they can for people in need of help. Obama speech of, “A More Perfect Union” is relevant in today’s culture for our country and although it won’t happen immediately but with time a change can happen in America if Americans can look past issues related to racism and work
