Being born outside the Continental United States, stepping into the white house during a challenging moment in economic history, and having an elite education that has helped him throughout life is just a small fraction of things that make this man who he is today. From his early life which has influenced him dramatically, his education that has never failed to make him an extremely intelligent man, his life before presidency which has made him a solid person, his many amazing accomplishments that make more and more people look up to him each day, to his extraordinary traits that make all of us feel a bit more humble when we think about them. Barack Obama’s father, also named Barack Hussein Obama, grew up in a small Kenya village. He won a scholarship to study economics at the University of Hawaii, where he met and married Ann Dunham, a white woman from Kansas, whose father on oil rigs during the Great Depression and fought in the U.S army during World War II before moving his family to Hawaii in 1959 Barack Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4, 1961. Barack Obama’s parents divorced just two years after his birth. This caused him to start integrating his black and white heritage at an early age. Ann and young Barack stayed in Hawaii while his father traveled back to Kenya. Barack would see his dad just once before dying in a car accident in 1982. Ann remarried very soon after and her and Barack moved to Indonesia. In 1970, Obama returned to Hawaii to live with his maternal grandparents. (“Barack Obama”). Obama entered the white house in the midst of an economic meltdown. He worked on financial reconstruction almost immediately as he stepped foot in the white house, negotiated the groundbreaking Paris Climate Agreement, cut the employment rate with amazing number (Booker 53). The employment rate dropped below anything in history, it reached 4.8%. Obama also helped millions of Americans access health care with his famous Obama Care program. People who couldn’t afford healthcare before Obama’s presidency dropped by a whopping 15 million. Obama also did something that meant a lot to many Americans in our country, he legalized same sex marriage. Same sex couples were free to wed after many years of prejudice against it. Obama also helped and did many things to the Military that were just groundbreaking. Women were now able to qualify for combat-roles in the military, which really helped women become equal to men in at least one way. He also let people who had different sexual orientations join the military. Military involvement was basically a necessity to Obama. He also did many things to help the Supreme Court and people involved. He doubled the number of female justices which proved to be a success, he also hired the first justice of Hispanic Heritage, whose name is Sonia
