It was exactly fifty two years ago when african-american lives would change forever. No one ever dreamed that blacks and whites would ever integrate let alone that there would be a black president. Now the time has come for the great nation to be ruled by a black man which is Barack Obama. On January 20, 2009, Barack Obama was inaugurated for his first term in the United States presidency. Barack Obama has an interesting life filled with many successes which has led him to become the 44th president of the United States.

In the Democratic Primary he emerged as the winner from seven candidates. His second book, The Audacity of Hope, was published on October 17, 2006 and it instantly became a bestseller. On January 3, 2008, Obama won a surprise victory in the first major nominating contest, the Iowa Caucus. In 2009, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen the international diplomacy and cooperation between people. These are just a few accomplishments that Obama achieved. (Britannica Middle School Database). Some interesting facts about Barack is that he can speak spanish, his zodiac sign is a Leo, and his name means “one who is blessed” in Swahili. He is also left handed, and he has read every Harry Potter book. Another interesting fact is that he worked at a Baskin Robbins as a teen and ironically he cannot stand ice cream. His favorite drink is Black Forest Berry Iced Tea and his favorite meal is his wife, Michelle’s, shrimp linguini. (Swaine, Jon). He has opened the doors for the minorities living all across this nation. Who knows? Maybe our next president can be a hispanic, black, or even a
