After Chris’ mom left and Chris has to live on his own, he has been imagining his dad comes back. In “Lifeguard” by Barbara Scott, Chris is really independent and full of imagination. Imagination helps Chris to get rid of his stresses. Chris family lives in Calgary, his family had fell apart six years ago, since his dad ran away. Since then, his mom has works really hard to raise Chris and his brother. She finally gets a marvellous job in Vancouver which she cannot turn of, because it pays twice as much as her old job. This was the year Chris finally had a chance to make the city swimming team. After four years of hard works and trainings, so he refuses to move. He wound up living on his own. As a result, he gets really stressful. Since then he has been imagines his dad show up in the swimming pool. The dad never came beyond to talk to Chris, after appears in the swimming pool that Chris works at. When describing the dad comes back every few days, Chris states, “He never came beyond it and never waved or motioned in any way.”(Pg. 26a) Chris mom tells Chris that it is not like the dad will do. When Chris and his mom are talking on the phone, Chris mom says, “If that isn’t exactly like him, to wait for you to make the…” (Pg.25b)Chris doesn’t remember much about his dad. When describing Chris’ family haven’t fell part, he states, “I don’t remember much about my dad, even though I was old enough to remember. I guess he was just there, hand on the wheel, eyes on the road. I don’t really know. I try to picture him doing anything else and that’s the best I can do.”(Pg.22c) As a result, the dad Chris imagines is different than the dad Chris’ mom
