The Dishonoring Warrior Beowulf ‘s prologue begins with a funeral for an old king to which the Danes community presents “no fewer gifts [of]/…battle-weapons and [sic] war-gear, / blades and byrines” as tribute to “support him—[for his] praiseworthy deeds” (Beowulf, 24-44). It can be seen throughout the poem that material items do not only have symbolic value, but also an ancestral reputation within the community since the spear-Danes believed “a young man [should] bring about good/ with pious gifts from his father’s possessions” (Beowulf, 20-1). In other words, one should honor the handed down gifts, as they tend to hold family stature.

Beowulf qualifies as a hero in his own way he has his own strengths and does not exactly follow campell’s way of the hero. Beowulf is a warrior that has defeated many beasts and men alike with his bare hands alone. He has never been defeated by any beast , Beowulf is the ultimate hero , although he does not exactly follow cambell’s way of the hero, he still manages to maintain some of the same characteristics. Beowulf crossed the first threshold by hearing about grendal and then sets off on his journey to go defeat the beast.
While Beowulf can be seen as a hero and his selfless choice of departing after the dragon, he unnecessarily let his people exposed to danger from the other tribes. The visual image seems to interpret that Beowulf left as a misguided hero displaying inevitable fate. Despite Beowulf displaying his good and bad values that has caused him to rise and fall, the unknown poet and those who have helped shape the poem conveyed it to have meaning in their natural modern world that even to this day has connection to ours.
I watched Good Luck Charlie for my bias assignment. It is a Disney series about a family that likes to have fun but also has everyday problems. This episode was about the mother going back to work after having her fourth child and she needed help from her family to keep an eye on the baby. The second child is a girl name Teddy and she was pretty much put in charge over her dad while her older brother got to go out with his friends she also wanted to go on a date that night but her dad made the boy come to the house for the first date. The third son named Gabe felt that his family forgot about him ever since the new baby came, his older brother and sister insured him they all still love him.
Sciences and technologies have improved many aspects of human lives. But as technologies are developing to be more and more advanced, science can be a deadly subject to us as well. Some writers have taken this idea and expanded on this theme of how science is deadly. In this essay I will discuss how this theme is explored in the texts: the novel Unwind written by Neal Shusterman, the film Gattaca directed by Andrew Niccol, following the short texts There Will Come Soft Rains and The Veldt written by Ray Bradbury. Science is supposed to help humans to understand more about the world and improve people’s lives.
In Beowulf, there are several side stories that provide significant insight to the future of the story. In chapter 13, the side story of Sigmund and Hermod begins. Being placed after Beowulf’s defeat of Grendel provides a look as which path Beowulf’s could take with his newfound fame and glory. Beowulf could follow in Sigmund’s path. Sigmund was glorious warrior who fought many kinds of evil terrorizing the communities.
Beowulf is the main hero in the poem, and he travels to the land of the Danes to help King Hrothgar get rid of the monster Grendel. After having slain Grendel, there is still a huge crisis present. Grendel’s mother comes to the Hall of Heorot to avenge the death of her kinsmen by killing Aeschere. Aeschere is one of Hrothgar’s most trusted advisors, and his loss bear’s heavy on Hrothgar’s heart. In the culture displayed in Beowulf, the bonds of friendship and kinsmanship are very important to the characters.
The story is about a man named Marcus, he lives in a type of futuristic society. The story opens with Marcus waking up to a normal day, his sister burst into his room telling him breakfast is about to start. Marcus proceeds downstairs and enjoys breakfast with his family. Once they are finished Marcus and his sister go outside to play. As, they are walking his sister falls into a hole, Marcus goes down to save her upon finding his sister he also finds a robot.
We start off in a land ‘far far way’ to this young hero who’s name is Beowulf now we follow him to one of his battles. Beowulf might have his down falls but come on the guy is insane when he go in to battles. We will skip to the most epic battle Beowulf has ever face and his opponent was Grendel. Now Grendel wasn’t the most nicest monster I say that because he would come up out of his cave and came up and ate everything human in the meat hall.
The epic of Beowulf begins with an opening scene of King Hrothgar of Denmark enjoying the fruits of his reign. The king commissions his subjects to build a grand mead hall, dubbing it Heorot. Where his most formidable soldiers can meet to drink, receive valiant rewards from their king, and enjoy tales sung by the bards. One night as the soldiers were rejoicing in the mead-hall, the jubilant noise emanating from the hall infuriated a demon-like monster named Grendel. Grendel is said to be the descendant of the biblical Cain, living in the moors of the kingdom.
The Perfect Hero In every heroic tale, there lies a theme of balance in values. Every hero is said to possess a fatal flaw; whether they overcome this flaw or let it define who they are is up to them. In the epic poem Beowulf, translated by Seamus Heaney, it is not particularly hard for the reader to point out their perceived flaws of our hero: arrogance, pride, egotism. Yet, Beowulf stands tall in the poem as the perfect hero, adored and praised by all.
Beowulf is one of the oldest and most well-known epic stories throughout the world. The main character in this story is Beowulf himself. Beowulf is a true and epic hero, who ultimately loses his life while trying to protect the he cared for. Beowulf was a man of great strength, which allowed him to defeat monster and make him the hero that he was. He did not have this strength on his own accord, but was assisted with some divine intervention.
A hero's journey is a pattern of narrative identities that appears in many dramas, storytellings, myths, and psychological development. The journey consist of twelve different steps and in the story Beowulf we read about the magnificent and rough journey that Beowulf and this men accomplish. Many people question if Beowulf is considered a hero and if what he did was good. The journey that he embarked on, leads me to believe that Beowulf is a hero and always will be. The first step in the hero's journey is called the “call to adventure” this is when something is disturbed from external pressure of from inner conflict.
