The ancient Olympic Games began in the year of 776 BC. The Olympics were part of a religious festival held in honor of Zeus, king of the gods. The Olympic Games were held every four years at a small valley called Olympia where people from all over the world would come watch and take part. The International Olympic Committee was founded by a man named Baron Pierre de Coubertin in 1894 which led to the beginning of what would become the first modern Games which were held in Athens in 1896. Baron's reason for creating the modern Olympic Games were to promote physical education as well as honor his religious beliefs.

Nowadays, there are many advantages and disadvantages for a city to host The Olympics. Cities which host the Olympics will receive increase in recognition and tourism as well as raise the profile of the city. A major advantage is the economic benefits. The Olympics will increase the spending and injection of money into the local economy from tourists from all over the world traveling to this city and putting their money towards things like hotels and transportation which will boosts the city's economy.
