The use of steroids in major league sports has greatly influenced the way America’s pastimes are enjoyed. In the story of Jose Canseco, he attempts to convince me on several fronts that his use of steroids was neither bad nor significant. Throughout his story he explains to the readers about the shortcomings of baseball through opinions and his own personal experiences. After all is said he does make a compelling argument about the use of performance enhancing drugs, however he fails to convince me on all pillars of persuasion. He tells us ethically that his use had very little influence on him, while making us passionate in his quest to be the best, all the while making his argument logical.
By allowing professional athletes to use drugs, what message are we sending out to young sports players and those who idolize their sporting heroes? Is the goal to inform them on how to cheat, or how to use your own muscle and blood to win? Performance-Enhancing drugs used by athletes can cause many health problems and create an unfair advantage to other athletes. Many of the performance enhancers used have serious health risk and allow the use of such substances could cause peer pressure to all athletes to consider using them. Athletes dreaming to improve their performance the easy way are often the first you see to start using substances; this places them at risk of the many consequences.

When you find out about any athlete’s use of PEDS it makes you wonder have they been using them their entire career. Should any wins, they were involved in be voided? Should all athletes be tested for PEDS before each event? Those are all questions we should all think about.

Drugs are a big issue in the sports industry. Many athletes will take performance-enhancing drugs, such as steroids, to help them play better. These types of drugs should not be allowed because it gives the player a greater advantage over other players who are playing with their natural ability. This issue could be solved if there was monthly drug testing and if the drug was not so easy to get ahold of. Many major league baseball players are getting caught using performance-enhancing drugs.
The use of PEDs in professional sports is also an ethical dilemma. PEDs users clearly have a leg up on their competitors that they achieved unnaturally. They are taking a short cut to achieve greatness and that’s unethical in sports. Is it right to play against competitors while taking a substance they aren’t taking? Shouldn’t sports be as fair as possible to everyone?
Most athletes would do anything to win or be better than their opponents. The athletes that are using steroids are cheating by increasing their strength. In conclusion, Performance Enhancing Drugs should not be tolerated in any sport, whether professional or amatuer. These drugs are highly dangerous and even lethal to all athletes who use them. It is also unfair to athletes who choose not to use these drugs, as they are performing on their hard work and talent and not relying on an “edge” to help them reach their goals. These drugs are highly addictive, just like any other street drug or alcohol and can be fatal in many cases.

Doping should not be allowed in professional sports.
