Baseball and It’s Problems With 162 games in a baseball season today, it should not be a surprise to anyone that it is considered America’s favorite pastime. There is nothing like sitting in the stands, with the smell of hot dogs wafting up from the grill, and hearing the crack of the first pitch soaring into the great beyond. With players like Jackie Robinson, Lou Gerig, and Ted Willimas, it shouldn’t be a surprise that it has survived racial segregation, a few world wars, and The Great Depression. Some injuries can take people out of the game for a little amount of days to sometimes over a year. In my experience, I have seen more high schoolers with arm surgeries than I have ever seen before. However, there are more than just arm injuries that happen when playing this game. In the article, “Baseball Injury Prevention,” it states specifically, “The most common baseball include mild soft tissue injuries, such as muscle pulls, ligament injuries, cuts, and contusions”(pp.1). This article talks about ways to prevent these types of injuries. One way it mentions warming up properly. If people live in cold Ohio weather like I do, it is very important to take the time to warm your body up properly. It is also very important to focus on your technique as a baseball player. Technique with baserunning, pitching and throwing, and hitting are all very important to make sure you stay injury free. In the article, when it is talking about the technique of baseball running. It mentions that it is very important to teach kids about the obstruction rule. This rule is when a player in the field and runner collide on the basepath and the runner is awarded the next base.
