Bashongo Bimba Creation Myth

255 Words2 Pages
Some of the ways that this creation myth reflects the people to whom it belongs is that the only god, Bumba, is a male. This represents that this may have been a patriarchal society. It also reflects that the Boshongo and Bakuba people were hardworking men. It is mentioned how many of Bumba’s sons after being created, continued his work. They created more creatures and plants in the world after his father finished his job. So this passed from one generation to the other.
Besides being a creator, Bumba was also a protector. When he sees that Tsetse was causing trouble on the earth, he asked her to leave and that she would have to live in the sky. He decided that it would be best and safer if she didn’t live on the earth with everyone else.
