The story of, Piper Kerman, relates to what we learn in this course about female offenders. The show “Orange is the New Black” is about a nice blond white lady whose life change dramatically when she was arrested for conspiracy drug charges and heroin trafficking that occurred several years prior. Not like many prisoners, Kerman comes from well-educated family. She is the last person anyone would expect to see in prison (Sullivan, 2015). She got to experience first had on how the criminal justice works and see how women in prison go through every day.
In sight of the cold war, in 1961 the highest point of the cold war is when the episode known as “The Shelter” in the series called The Twilight Zone was created. The episode covered the possibilities of many particular situations that may have occurred in a desperate time like this if a missile was launched at the United States. At the beginning of the episode, Rod Serling himself tells us “what you are about to watch is a nightmare.” We get a very ominous sense of what is coming due to the eerie music that had been playing in the background, and we soon find out that this episode is just that. A nightmare, in the sense of the event that is occurring but also the constant battle of a nightmare between thoughts that may drive one crazy as well as those thoughts mixed with the people you knew as “friends.”
The eye opening topics of The Twilight Zone reveal societal issues that were relevant in the 60’s when this show was first released. The black and white, 22 minute episodes each told a story while teaching lessons to the audience. This series was a popular science-fiction show during the 5 seasons it ran. Each episode highlighted a different part of society and brought light to the problems it will have if society doesn’t fix them.
The story “Me And Earl And The Dying Girl” by Jesse Andrews takes place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The time setting is in the year 2011 nearing the end of the school year and main characters, Gregory Gaines, Earl Jackson, and Rachel Kushner are all in their senior year at Benson High School. The setting differentiates the character’s personality by separating them by social class. Author illustrates Rachel and Gregory living in a middle class home in a quiet neighborhood in the town area they live in. However, Earl lives in a dangerous and unkept part of the city that characterizes him and his family as dangerous people because of their semi-economic disadvantage.
Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl is a movie that reflects the value of friendship during tough social situations. The movie portrays several inferences and levels of the made up friendship between the main characters Greg and “the dying girl” Rachel during her struggle with cancer and the friendship between the two senior students in the same high school Greg and Earl. Both of Greg and Earl craft short films during their senior year in high school, yet they refuse to publish them or give a copy to anyone up until the part in the movie in which Greg life changes because he develops a friendship with a girl with leukemia named Rachel and the other part where Earl publicizes the films he did with Greg to Rachel. Piper Kerman is a Caucasian woman who is well educated, and of a comfortable socioeconomic class. Piper wrote the book Orange is the New Black to expose the injustices of the justice system through her personal account of her sentence in federal prison. Piper has written about all of her experiences starting from graduating college to her time spent in prison, to her release, and writes her account to exploit the criminal justice system and the struggles women face during their time of incarceration. After graduating from Smith College, Piper lived a comfortable, yet predictable life, in Northampton, but yearned for a sense of adventure.
The novel “The Haunting of Hill House,” written by Shirley Jackson, closely follows the traditional tropes of an American Gothic. The main character of the novel, Eleanor, begins her journey to self growth after accepting an offer to live in a suspected haunted house for the summer. Moreover, Eleanor meets three other people that have an important effect on her development as a person. These characters slowly begin to question their own sanity due to the house’s destructive nature. Jackson appeals to fans of the American gothic through her particular description of the house and how the characters interact with it in order to show the environments foil of an absolute reality.

Seven Psychopaths – A Review The movie was released in the year 2012 and is a black comedy crime movie. The main characters of the movie are played by Collin Farrell, Christopher Walken, Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrelson. All of the actors have performed well and they have added a bit of a spice of their own in the movie.
THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS BY JONATHAN DEMME In many ways, ‘The Silence of the lambs’ is different from its predecessors in the Hannibal cannibal novel series. A 1991 horror-thriller movie directed by Jonathan Demme and starring Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins, and Scott Glenn. In the film, a bright, young FBI Trainee Clarice Starling is chosen by Jack Crawford of the FBI’s Behavioral Sciences Unit to interview Hannibal Lecter, a former psychiatrist and the cannibalistic serial killer whose insight leads to the pursuit of the serial killer named ‘Buffalo Bill’, who skins his female victim corpses. Compared to its immediate predecessor ‘Manhunter’ of 1986 movie, ‘silence’ is very much a skillful adaptation and brilliant execution of the plot taking an advanced step from the ‘Manhunter’.
The most critical part of a horror movie, is the suspense. The Shining did a satisfying job when it came to each scene, having its own little twist. These little twists added up in the end to make the film as striking as possible. With these little twists in mind it brings an example out from the movie. This is shown by the scene in which, the little boy named Danny is in his bathroom talking to his invisible friend Tony, in which lives in Danny’s mouth.
Trifles by Susan Glaspell is a play written in 1916 about a murder in a small town. There are seven roles, five of them speaking. Sheriff Peters, his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Hale, and the County Attorney Henderson are all trying to piece together what happened to Mr. Wright, who Mr. Hale found hanging from a rope in his home. Mrs. Wright, who doesn’t have stage time, is the main suspect in her husband’s death. It is understood she committed the crime by the end of the show.
