Bathroom Privacy Across Texas At Orange Grove High School

Schools across Texas are taking away the means of privacy for young men at school. The schools are removing bathroom necessities: stall doors, urinal dividers and shower curtains. The removal of the doors, dividers, and curtains are making these male students uncomfortable and not wanting to use the school’s bathroom facilities. In Texas at Orange Grove High School, male bathroom privacy is close to being non-existent. In the athletic department, shower curtains are not present for these male students making their privacy zero to none. The students are forced to make the decision of showering in the open view of fellow male peers or to start school with bad hygiene, which most do not prefer. In the school’s male restrooms, a third of the toilets are missing stall doors and the few doors that are still there only cover the student’s from the chest down. For example, calling out all male students during lunch or a free period to fill out a simple survey could help show the school’s board members how the students feel about their restrooms. Surveys are a great way to gain knowledge and ideas from a student’s perspective since the school and teachers do not see an issue with the school facilities. However, the teachers do not understand how the students feel about the school bathrooms since the teachers have their own personal restroom in the front office. The school could also keep track of how many male students ask to use the restroom. For instance, the students can write down their name on a slip or hall pass and at the end of the day the teachers can count up the number of students who left class to the bathroom. This can keep count of how many male students have no issue with using the school
