“God versus man! Day versus night! Son of Krypton versus Bat of Gotham!” These are some quotes from Lex Luthor in the hit indie film Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which highlight the numerous differences between Batman and Superman. While at first glance these two members of the DC Comics Trinity seem to be complete opposites, there actually are many similarities between them. For instance, some of these similarities are the fact their mothers share the same name, both have prominent symbols on their costumes, which have significant meaning to them, both are orphans, and both have a moral code to not kill anyone. First of all, both of these costumed crime fighter's mothers coincidentally have the same first name, Martha, which was controversially used as the factor to unite the two in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Superman's adoptive mother on earth, Martha Kent, helps to nurture and care for the young Kal-El as he lands in Kansas from the destroyed planet of Krypton. It is from the Kents that Superman gets his famous alias, Clark Kent. Likewise, Batman also has a mother who happens to have the first name Martha, Martha Wayne. Superman is very famous for being a big blue boy scout that tries to do as little harm as possible, except in the DCEU version. The only time he is forced to use his full physical force is when the villains put other human lives at risk. In the same way, Batman has also established a moral code to not take the lives of the criminals he is fighting. He prefers to see the good in the criminals and try to help them reform in prisons.
