Synopsis­ The Battle of Chancellorsville is an interesting brawl in American Civil War History. The battle seemed like it would have been a clean Union win with thousands of more soldiers. However Commander Joseph Hooker failed to do so. It was a fight of about 154,734 men in a little county in virginia named Spotsylvania, Virginia. The battle ran 7 days in the increasingly higher temperatures of late April. This Battle has made it's way into being one of the most important battle of US Civil War. The Union side used the largest eastern Union army. This Army was created in 1861 and called The Potomac, and was first led by Brigadier GeneralIrvin McDowell. The Military expert, Confederate, GeneralRobert E. Lee left their camp in Old Domination or Virginia. When They encountered the Union flank in town, Lee made a very surprising and daring tactic ofsplit his 52,352 men into two groups. The Confederates did this so that they could attack from both ends. With a staggering difference in firearms Lee countered and succeeded. He headed west towards the Orange Turnpike. A well known Confederate general, Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson also commanded during the battle of Chancellorsville. Jackson got his nickname, “Stonewall” from his performance in the First BullRun where he made a wall of men to close the gap so the union couldn't go through. On May the second, Jackson took half of Confederate Soldiers to march straight into the Enemy's base. When Jackson made his way to the rear of the Union's’ land and pushed the enemies soldiers out. Everything was going outstanding for the Confederate men. But a tragedy happened on the battlefield when a Confederate man obliterated Stonewall's left arm. A man from the North Carolina regiment mistook Stonewallfor an enemy and shot him. Ironically enough one of the biggest names in CSU history
