The Battle of Fredericksburg first started on December 13,1862,it included nearly 200,000 soldiers,that was the biggest concentration of soldiers in any Civil War Battle ever. A man by the name of Ambrose Burnside was a very new appointed commander of the Army of Potomac, and Ambrose had ordered more than 120,000 soldiers so that they can cross the Rappahannock River. That River was where the Army made a two-pronged attack on the right and left flanks of Robert E.Lee’s 80,000 very strong army of the Northern territory of Fredericksburg. Burnside had changed his two best corps to Falmouth, by mid-November, it was located on the North bank of the Rappahannock River across from Fredericksburg. Lee responded and rushed his Army to dig trenches in a row, on the hills south of the Rappahannock even before the amazing power of Burnside’s army could arrive. Burnside crossed the Rappahannock with more than 120,000 union troops on December 11, Lee only offered a small gift of resistance in order to give Stonewall’s corps time to interact with Longstreet’s stretching out the Confederate Army line by some three miles. Burnside had ordered his left wing in an attack on Lee’s right on December 13, led by Jackson, all while the other half of his army attempted to attack Longstreet’s first corps at Marye’s Heights. General George Meade led a division managed to temporarily destroy Jackson’s line, Franklin failed to send more than 50,000 soldiers forward when he was given the opportunity, Jackson was able to successfully launch a counter-attack. The artillery of Longstreet’s mowed down the ranks of attacking Union troops from their strong forces on high ground. There had been no change in position by the time darkness
