Each country in the world, on either side of the war, had their own battles to fight within World War II. Aside from Germany, Japan was the nation to really bring America into the World War with the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Many battles between 1941 and the end of World War II that involved America happened with Japan, including the Battle of Guadalcanal. The battle was for land and the possibility of protection and support. The Battle of Guadalcanal is one of many battles that occurred between the United States and Japan during World War II. Admiral Ernest King wanted to have a full attack to counter the threat of the Japanese, against the Roosevelt- Churchill directive. The Chief-of-Staff in Washington agreed, and gave the okay for the campaign (Trueman).With a simple plan, the First U.S. Marine Division was to secure a beach in order for other forces to come to land. Several problems occurred with the plan through. While the division had many men, the majority were untrained. Accurate maps were not available either, so the ship captains were not sure of the tidal currents, places, or how far ashore they could go (Trueman). Doubt pushed back the initial attack that was planned for August first to the fourth, then again to the seventh. One the men made it to Red Beach prepared for an attack they found that there was no defending army. The Americans had a complete tactical surprise. The climate effected soldiers and radio signal.
