World War two started September 1, 1939, when Germany invaded Poland and ended August 15, 1945 when Japan surrendered. World War two is a historic event for many countries. Especially the United States because they supposedly won World War two. In Russia it is said that Soviet union was victorious at World War two and they are the true winners. Both these Countries had very large impact on ending the war, they were even allies, along with Britain. Soviet Union and The United States are referred to as Superpowers that transpired from the war. Although both Countries had big parts in ending Nazi Germany and putting in end to war, Soviet Union was the true winner. Soviet union was one of the most powerful countries at the time. Stalingrad was a very symbolic city, not only was it a very industrial city, but it also held Joseph stalin, the dictator of The Soviet Union’s name, winning this battle was important to both Stalin and Hitler. The pressure was very high on both forces, except The Red Army would end up victorious and prove how powerful they were, “Hitler was particularly proud of the Sixth Army… It was the first to invade belgium. It took paris. It took part in the invasion of Yugoslavia and Greece...In 1942 it broke from Karkov to Stalingrad. And now it does not exist.” As powerful the Sixth Army was, it did not meet the same results Belgium, Paris Yugoslavia, and Greece as it did with Soviet Union, “The result was that German forces,deprived of supplies and reinforcements,were battered and starved into submission”. About two hundred thousand German soldiers died in just this battle. Ninety one thousand German troops became prisoners. The powerful Sixth army did not succeed in the Battle of Stalingrad, but was defeated by The Red Army. Unfortunately for Germany, this was not the end of embarrassment for them. In the Battle of Kursk, also known as the largest tank battle. Hitler’s operation Citadel, which was code name for a plan to launch a large scale panzer and setting on Kursk, Hitler’s goal was to destroy Soviet Forces. Hitler delayed Operation citadel for three months, till a new weapon was done being made, the panther, “a tank that was faster, more maneuverable and had a good gun.” The delay, allowed Stalin to come up with a plan, and that was to build strength. The USSR was prepared with over five thousand tanks, twenty five thousand guns, and an estimated amount of two million troops.
