The Battle of the Little Big Horn began on June 25, 1876 near the Little Big Horn River in eastern Montana. The battle took place between the U.S. Cavalry and northern tribe Indians. This war began over gold, and ultimately the refusal of the Sioux to move into reservations. General George Crook and his column were resting along the rosebud, when randomly a mass force of Lakota warriors came flying out of the mountains. Crook and his men withstood the stampede and prevented the Wyoming colony from being overrun. Sitting Bull was the leader of the Lakota tribe in the 19th century. Sitting Bull understood there was nowhere to run, and this is the last great stand of the Lakota land. General George Custer’s column saw the trail of sitting bull’s village and began following it. Worried that Sitting Bulls band would scatter, he pushed his column and marched until they got to the Wolf Mountains. Custer envisioned on the other side of the mountains would be sitting bulls village. If went unseen, General Custer and his men would surround the village, and he would finally get the victory he needed so very badly.
On June 25th Custer and his men climbed to the top of the mountain, to an overlook called the Crows Nest. But his Calvary couldn’t see anything because the terrain was very deceiving. Custer than hears a report that numerous Sioux have been discovered near the pack train behind his Calvary and Custer is immediately worried that they’ve been discovered. Sitting Bull’s best scout, Bloody Knife was on a horse besides Reno and as both were communicating, shots were fired and Bloody Knife was shot in the head. Troops were confused because Reno ordered so many different things, that they didn’t know what to do. Reno was intoxicated towards the march down the valley and he lifted his pistol and yelled “ anyone who’s wants to live follow me” and off he went. Soldiers retreated back over the little big horn river and saw a cut in the bank on the other side. Allowing only one person at a time, Reno’s troops dropped their weapons and left everything behind. Reno and his survivors made it up the slopes, and as they got to the top of the hill Reno saw Benteen approaching. Reno shouted “For god sake benteen alt your command and help me” and Benteen Replied “Where is Custer?” Reno’s men saw Custer waving his hat at the top of the bend and than disappear. Custer ordered Benteen and Reno to come quick but they sit and do nothing. Firing was occurring to the north, and as that’s happening Reno and Benteen are talking about
