Battle of Verdun The Battle of Verdun took place in 1916 and was started by the Germans at 7:15 am when they began hitting the forts and trenches with artillery fire. The battle started because the main line of German communication was threatened. World War 1 started on July 28, 1914 and ended on November 11, 1918. The war began because of the assassination of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, it was the main problem that started the war. The battle was one the longest battles of World War 1. The battle of Verdun was significant because it was one of the bloodiest, longest, and one of the most brutal battles of World War 1. A flamethrower is a device designed to project flames and massive clouds of smoke in a controlled manner during wars. It was mostly used in battlefields, fortifications, bunkers and any other closed or shielding location. It was used because it can jet out flames up to 20 yards away from where the person controlling it is standing. It was also created to be carried and used by a single soldier. They also remember it because of the damage it caused and all the people that were killed, wounded or missing during the 10 month period that they were fighting. . It shows the battle mostly by recreating its defined location and the use of very dramatic scenes, because of the many casualties in the battle. It was released after World War 1 on November 23, 1928 and most of the German and French soldiers who were fighting in the movie were actual veterans from World War 1. I think that if France did not win at the Battle of Verdun then they would have kept advancing and taking down even more armies. The French winning this battle stopped the German army from advancing as much.
