Bay Islands Diesel is a new company that started with Mark Nelson having an eye for opportunity while on vacation in Routan, Honduras. Bay Islands Diesel sells parts for diesel generators and diesel powered boats. Routan is a small island about 75 miles north of the main island of Honduras. Mark Nelson is owner of a small company named Bay Islands Diesel. Mark started the company about 3 years ago. It is a very small company with Mark as the CEO and one employee, Kelin Cruz. While on vacation in 2013 in Honduras, Mark observed a need for diesel parts because everything runs on diesel power in Routan. There is no electricity on the island unless diesel powers it. Mark has a background as a diesel mechanic technician, service manager and salesperson for various businesses for around 30 years. Mark met a gentleman while on vacation, and shared his observation on the possible need for diesel parts to help run equipment for power on the island. This person introduced Mark to a husband and wife (who were dolphin trainers at the resort they staying) because they had a son (Kelin) living in Lincoln, Nebraska. He suggested the two meet because he could be a huge asset to help Mark get his business up and running in Honduras. Mark met with Kelin in Nebraska and realized he would be a great employee because he was bilingual and knowledge of the country. …show more content…

Nelson went to Routan so Kelin could be trained on how to sell parts to the native people and learn the knowledge about diesel parts from Mark. This went pretty smoothly, but Kelin only stayed for one summer. Mr. Nelson would continue to fly down every 4-5 months to meet with
