“Happiness can be learned, but finding meaning and a purpose in life is what leads to it, not the other way around. The happiest people appreciate and realize that being happy adds years to their life, and life to their years.” Beatty and Faber are opposites searching for different answers to the same question. They both use Montag as a key to open up doors to search for their answer. Beatty his a strong, confident individual that has read many books in his time but questions if happiness in a society can be found in these books. While Faber is a weak and fearful character who sees that although books can bring sadness and confusion, books are thee answer to help a society grow and find their happiness to where they can hold onto it. Faber is a weaker, more fearful person. Who is willing to be a teacher to Montag, but Montag has to be the one finding him. Faber waits in the shadows for his knowledge to be needed be someone. Furthermore, his intellect about books shows that instead of having value for the word becoming more condensed, he values the richness of the written word, and the "liesure to digest it". Faber hides because of his strong fear. He sees that his previous career as an English professor will make him a suspected criminal and cause a problem to his handiness to Montag if he were to be convicted. These traits of Faber can be seen by readers because Faber is willing to help Montag from afar, but he no longer has the strength to act on what he has read. Although he lacks the strength to act on his passions he sees Montag as a knight in shining armor, to do what he never could. Faber sees happiness in books and sees that with the knowledge that books bring people true happiness. The happiness Faber wants for himself and the sociality is a very hard thing to reach and many die before they can even begin to comprehend the meaning of it. Although it is a hard thing to conquer Faber still wants to see people at least trying to find lasting happiness rather than running away and just accepting small doucs of joy every now and
