Recently, an Indiana University student named Ellie started a beehive on campus. Ellie’s main motivation for starting this beekeeping project was to spread awareness about the significance of bees. Seen by many as a pest, bees are actually of critical importance to our society as they pollinate a ton of the crops that we rely on. It has been estimated that a third of the food that we consume requires pollination from bees. Bees are also an important source for most beeswax, pollen and honey products. The uses and benefits of the beehive’s honey are already apparent to a majority of the general public; the same cannot be said for the beehive’s beeswax and pollen. If enough people aren’t aware of the beehive’s candle showcase, no matter how great it is it’ll likely be unsuccessful. To ensure the candle showcase’s is successful and well attended, a proper advertising plan will need to be put in place. For this particular candle showcase I believe that the advertising campaign should heavily utilize Google. Google’s AdWords advertising program is an extremely efficient and cost-effective way for a business to send their message out to potential customers. AdWords is a system that places its clients’ advertisements directly above search results that are related to designated keywords. For the purposes of this project, we’d want to attach advertisements for the beehive and its candles next to search-terms and phrases such as “candles”, “bees”, “outdoors” and “volunteer opportunities”. AdWords also allows you to specify the geographic area in which you want your ads to appear. Naturally, the beehive ads should be limited to the greater Bloomington area as it would pointless and a waste of already limited resources for an ad for a Bloomington beehive to appear in Albuquerque. Perhaps the greatest benefit of using Google AdWords is its cost efficiency. AdWords protects you from being charged a fortune if interest in the ad turns out to be more significant than expected. They do this by allowing clients to set a maximum ad budget for each day. Also, Google doesn’t charge its AdWords customers for advertisements until the ads are clicked on. This ensures that clients will attain some form of bang for their buck. Also customers are protected from completely wasting their money by paying for an unviewed
