Ludwig Von Beethoven was a composer that was born in Bonn Germany on December 16th, 1770. He “was a German pianist and composer widely considered the greatest of all time, whose innovative compositions combined vocals and instruments, widening the scope of sonata, symphony, concerto and quartet”.(unknown, 2017) In the year of 1789 he had to support his family as a court musician because of his father’s alcoholism. That wasn’t his main struggle in life though. Even though Beethoven’s father had problems he taught him day after day and when he would return home they would practice more and more. He had realized he could no longer distinguish words that people had been saying in conversations. He has admitted that he had lived a miserable life. He said “If he were in any other profession he might be able to cope with him being deaf but being a composer, it was a handicap. The only reason that he had felt like he needed to live is because he wanted to compose more. Being a successful composer made him strive to be the best he can be. It had become so bad that he had to start to using paper books to have conversations. He said they were his Conversation Books and they helped him when he could not communicate. Even though he had accepted the fact that he was deaf, he still attempted to find a “cure” for his deafness. They tried to make him take cold baths to try to cure his deafness, but his hearing only worsened. His deafness was due to labyrinthitis of intestinal origin. “Deafness broke out in 1798 and Beethoven had lost 60% of his hearing by 1801. In 1816 he was completely deaf.” (Salter, 2001-2013) In 1802 he wrote a famous text expressing his feelings on how unfair life is. He thought he was so miserable.
