The definition of a relationship is an emotional connection with people, and the definition of perfect is, entirely without any flaws, defects, or shortcomings. Therefore, the definition of a perfect relationship would be an emotional connection with people that is entirely without any flaws. Throughout the novel, Behind Closed Doors, written by B. A. Paris the concept of a perfect relationship is explored. Jack and Grace Angel, a couple married for the short time of one year, are used to illustrate the truth behind courtships. Having a perfect relationship is not possible as no relationship is perfect, whether minor or major, every relationship has its faults. Although Jack and Grace seemed to have the perfect relationship, all relationships are more complex than what is seen and therefore their relationship could not be perfect. However, their relationship embodies perfection, Jack and Grace Angel, the image of love and happiness, be that as it may, Jack and Grace are not perfect. Although Jack appears to be flawless, Grace describes Jack as, “a wolf in sheep’s clothing” (122). Jack is seemingly perfect, however upon closer inspection he has many faults. A sheep is often used to show innocence and the desire to comply to social norms; a wolf however, often represents sharp intelligence and strength. In the novel, Jack appears to be an innocent conformist to the people around him. However, the reality is Jack is a strong intelligent person, who uses his strength to manipulate others, including Grace. Jack knows that the image he portrays to people is not the reality. Thus, it is important to be able to identify the truth that appearances are not always reality. The colour red can be used to help identify this truth. No relationship can be perfect, by definition this would mean the relationship is entirely without any flaws, defects, or shortcomings, which is not humanly possible, a relationship can only appear to be perfect. Every relationship has faults upon closer inspection, no matter how perfect it may seem the reality is always filled with flaws and imperfections. The author uses the colour red to highlight these ideas of appearance versus reality. Regardless of age, gender, and experience relationships are a complex subject. A subject matter that takes a lot of time and effort to fully develop. This means that even if something appears to be perfect it is important to step back and see what the reality of this is. This concept mostly applies to relationships, yet it is applicable to all subject matters. For example it is also important to spend a lot of time and energy in sports to ensure that the effort being put forward is the best representation of
