Have you ever heard of the names Herschel Walker, Lew Alcindor, Bo Jackson, or Cheryl Miller? These are the greatest college athletes in history. Even though they might be good in sports, are they good in academics? There have been many studies that show that college athletes are smarter than their other non-athlete classmates. According to StatCrunch, athletes have a 3.7 GPA while non-athletes have a 3.45 GPA. High school athletes tend to go to college through their sports. They could get recruited or they could talk to the coaches and go to college through them. Even though these athletes are going to college through sports, they still need to graduate high school(NCAA GPA Requirements). Therefore, athletes are coming into college with some knowledge rather than none. For example, you could go to a less prestigious college and receive average education, but if you would go to a prestigious school like Harvard, then you would tend to receive better education and become smarter(Berkman). Even though this is for educational purposes, this could differ from an athlete's perspective.
