Did you know that soccer is called football in almost every country around the world with the exception of the United States and Canada? The United States and Canada are the only countries that refer to the sport as soccer. Association Football, commonly known as soccer, is a sport that is played between a group of individuals divided into two teams with a spherical ball. The object of the game is to score a point by getting the ball into the opponent’s goal. Soccer may look like an uncomplicated sport and that all you have to do is kick a ball around, but there’s a lot more that goes into the sport especially if you want to be successful. Agility can be divided into two components, quickness and change of direction. Agility is the ability to change the direction of your body very quickly without losing your balance and losing control of the ball. Having great agility can improve your athletic quickness. Athletic quickness requires that you have the balance to keep your body in control and cause you to respond to plays on the field quicker, which can ultimately give you an edge over your competitors. It enables you to not only have better control over your body, but also better control over the ball so that your opponent can’t take the ball away from you. Agility also can improve your change of direction. Having the ability to change your direction quickly and efficiently is very important because if soccer players can “change speed, but only in a straight line, they aren’t going to be very difficult to stop” (Marco, Aschermann 63).
