Bek's Bias Towards Akhenaten

Due to his apparent hate for the priests of Amun and his feelings towards Akhenaten after he dies, Bek, the main sculptor and good friend of Akhenaten, shows a bias towards Akhenaten. When Bek is explaining when he met Akhenaten, he despises the quick judgment the priests make against Akhenaten by saying that they "interpreted it as an evil force that had taken hold of Akhenaten... The evil force dwelt within the hearts of the priests" (64). To most readers, this may seem like an objective comment. The priests believe that Akhenaten is the force of evil, but Bek believes the opposite, that the priests are the evil force destroying the nation. While he is explaining his side of Akhenaten's rise to power, he says the reason he was unable to make it as the leader of a great nation was because "He was haunted by his natural weakness and jealousy" (80). Toto basically says that Akhenaten was a bad pharaoh because he was weak. That’s it? If one is going to prove that someone was not a good king, they need to prove more than that he was weak and full of jealousy. Also, when Toto has a conversation with the High Priest of Amun where they are trying to decide what to do with Akhenaten, he says that they should “take Akhenaten and kill them all; the heretic and his wife, Ay, Haremhab, Nakht, and Bek” (82). Again, Toto is quick to go to extremes. When you read the character’s stories, Ay still believed in Amun, Haremhab accepted the religion because it was his duty to the king (50), Nakht says that he believes that Akhenaten had lied to Egypt (125), and Bek is biased towards Akhenaten. Toto believes that all of them should be killed for being part of Akhenaten’s entourage, even though most of them don’t believe. Toto is very biased against Akhenaten due to his lack of points when saying why Akhenaten was a bad king and his jumping to false conclusions against some characters believing that they should be
