In the song,” Believer” by Imagine Dragons they sing about the hardships they faced. He talks about taking the situation into his hands and making the best of it. He used the pain he experienced to help him move along in life. Its trying to express that your greatest strengths come from your greatest weakness. He realized he was in charge of his own life.
To express this theme, the song used many literary devices. Firstly, the Dragons write “I'm the one at the sail/ i'm the master of my sea”(Dragons). This lyric emphasis that he is in control of his own life. He now understands that in a horrible situation you can either decide to let life take its course or take control and choose you own outcome. Secondly, the lyric “All the hate that you've heard has turned your spirit to a dove” is explaining how all the hate and pain he has endured has empowered him to overcome the criticism and be at peace with himself (Dragons). Another example of a literary device is “Falling like ashes to ground/ hoping my feeling they would drown” (Dragons). This is a perfect metaphor to describe how he felt in that moment. The lyric hints that he was depressed and didn't know how to handle the situation. Following the last example, the lyric “I was choking in the crowd/ living my brain up in a cloud” shows that he was lost (Dragons). He was ignoring his problems and pretending they didn't exist.
