The title of my book is Beloved, by Toni Morrison. The physical setting is a haunted house in Kentucky. The temporal setting is in the late 1860s, during a time of slavery. The author uses flashbacks to manipulate time. The setting is critical to the story. Without the haunted house and slavery, this book would be weird. The tone of the story is dark and scary, and the theme for this story is supernatural.

The protagonist of Beloved is Sethe who can be described as strong. Textual evidence to support Sethe’s strength, is when she escaped Sweet Home and started a new life for her child.
