These made the Rethinkers not just want to help their school with the food issue but to help their community. They first replaced the plastic silverware. They talked to there school nutritionist. They talked about
Food Justice at Trinity dedicates it 's time to provide services to those in need within Asbury Park, because we value compassion, solidarity, and charity. Food Justice at Trinity or FTJ hopes to complete the following with additional funding: expanding the urban garden, and purchasing local organic foods for our guests. Trinity has multiple programs which helps us complete our mission of the meeting the immediate needs of hunger and lead towards a brighter future for Asbury Park. Trinity organizes within Asbury to prevent hunger and injustice in the future through our educational efforts. The only way to prevent hunger is to understand why it exists, this is the education Trinity provides to citizens throughout Asbury and to our volunteers.
Boxes upon boxes of food are everywhere. It is time to carry out operation Sack Pack Program at West Sioux High School. Four adults and ten students prepare to form an assembly line to make 350 sack packs for students in need, from kindergarten to twelfth grade. These students in need could go hungry over the weekend if it was not for these sack packs, which provide nutritious, healthy food. I had the privilege of speaking to one of the sack pack program directors.
While community garden was one of the solutions, they could not have solved everything that happened during the great depression. While the establishment of community gardens during the Great Depression provided a temporary solution to shortages of food, it did not address the deeper economic and social factors that caused the crisis in the first place.” While it is evidenced that the community garden in this study contributes to individual, household, and community food security, additional help is needed in the form of education, policy, and funding to increase food security and promote healthy lifestyles” (Corrigan, 2011). Community gardens alone could not tackle the bigger problems that existed at the time, such as poverty, unemployment, and economic injustice. Furthermore, not everyone had access to these plots of land or a community garden to participate in, and without proper training, many were bound to fail.
Did you know that 1 in 5 U.S. kids don’t get the food they need every day? This negatively impacts kids’ health and development, but this can also negatively impact them academically as well as emotionally and socially. No Kid Hungry is an organization that is making a difference regarding this problem. No Kid Hungry was founded by Billy Shore and his sister Debbie Shore in 1984. Since then, No Kid Hungry has raised and invested more than $528 million in the fight against hunger, and has won the support of national leaders in business, government, health and education, sports, and entertainment.
In many cases, the local food pantry may be a far drive and residents do not have proper transportation to get there.2 Even if residents are able to go to food pantries, typically there is not a lot of fresh food due to the expenses of keeping fresh food refrigerated. Jonathan Bloom authored a book about food waste in America called, American Wasteland. Bloom describes societal norms and values that contribute to food waste. Bloom is successful in getting his message across by effectively using phrases such as “food insecurity”, “cultural waste”, and “cultural shift” to highlight the severity of the issue, challenge societal norms, and encourage readers to act. Bloom uses the phrase “food insecurity” to describe the lack of access to enough food for an active and healthy life for some Americans.
The U.S. population is growing older as the individuals from the baby boom enters old age and retirement. As a result, the labor force will increasingly depend upon immigrants and their children to replace current workers and fill new jobs. Food deserts can defined as parts of the country where fresh fruit, vegetables, and other healthy whole foods, are hard to come by, usually found in poverty-stricken areas. This is because of a lack of grocery stores, farmers’ markets, and healthy food providers. This has become a big problem because while food deserts are often short on whole food providers, especially fresh fruits and vegetables, instead, they have numerous local small mini-marts that provide a lot of processed, sugary, and fatty foods
According to RHI-Hub.com, Access to healthy and reasonable food can be a challenge for rural residents, unrelatedly of income level. Due to financial factors such as a low capacity of trades, many rural areas lack food shops and could be considered “food deserts.” Which are areas where there is limited availability of fresh, affordable foods. People who shop at rural communities may trust on less expensive and less nutritious options, such as those available at a gas station convenience store, than take a long drive to the grocery store that stocks fresh produce, milk, eggs, and other staples. In the discussions of food insecurity, one controversial issue has been the prevalent misconception of why people are suffering from obtaining nutritious food on a consistent basis. On one hand, Frank Eltman, a writer for the Business facet of the Huffington post, argues that university students are facing food insecurity due to college expenses exponentially rising within the past decade. On the other hand, Adam Appelhanz, a police officer featured in the documentary “A Place at the Table,” contends that due to budget constraints he has not received a pay raise in the last four years, and is now inevitably utilizing a local food bank in order to ensure that he has something to eat each month. Others even maintain that food insecurity is synonymous
The rising health problems in the United States of America are caused by poor nutrition, people who are sedentary, the lack of healthcare prevention, and many more. As reported on the Tikkun website, “Of the many systems in our world today that need to be reimagined, none is more important for our future than our food system” (1). The lack of our food system is one of the many factors that has led the United States to its uprising dilemmas; one of the many factors are the food deserts across the U.S. Food deserts are geographic areas where access to affordable healthy and nutritious food are limited, or impossible to purchase, by residents in the area. Food deserts are prone to low-income areas that can’t afford transportation, and due to the lack of grocery stores and supermarkets that sells fresh produce and healthy food within convenient distance to resident’s homes, there is a difficulty in obtaining healthy food options which leads to countless health issues. According to the Diabetes Forecast website, “About 18.3 million Americans live in low-income areas and are far from a supermarket” (1).
In a country that wastes billions of pounds of food each year, it's almost shocking that anyone in America goes hungry. Yet every day, there are millions of children and adults who do not get the meals they need to thrive. We work to get nourishing food – from farmers, manufacturers, and retailers – to people in need. At the same time, we also seek to help the people we serve build a path to a brighter, food-secure future.
Historians have argued whether the American Revolution was a conservative attempt to protect the colonist’s traditional rights as Englishmen or a radical attempt to implement dangerous enlightenment ideas. I believe that the American Revolution was a radical attempt to implement dangerous enlightenment ideas. Colonists new government, their acts of treason and new identity were mostly based on enlightenment ideas. Colonial leaders used Enlightenment ideas to vindicate freedom from Britain(Fiore Notes).

Findings reveal that few well-designed research studies have been completed to evaluate how dietary influences are affected by community gardens (McCormack et al, 2010). However, using qualitative semi-structured interviews in a research project in Melbourne, the results revealed multiple health benefits, such as improved mental health, a sense of worth and involvement, social support, nutritional benefits and increased physical activity, (Kingsley et al, 2009). Alaimo et al (2008) collected data in Michigan, through questionnaires among 766 participants to determine the association between participation in community gardens and fruit and vegetable consumption among adults. Households with a member who participated in a community garden consumed fruit and vegetables 1.4 more times a day than those who did not participate, and were 3.5 times more likely to consume them at least 5 times
