According to the dictionary, “imperialism is a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force.” The United States decided that expanding their power, land, and money was the best way to resolve their problems because they thought that the theory of Manifest Destiny was the only way they could go any farther into the future. Latin America was affected badly with all their schemes and experiments they tried, including the Panama Canal project. Throughout the expansion of the United States, there was some advantages that came through the process. For starters, Latin America gained more resources after the United States built the Panama Canal on their territory, which brought more trading to life in both nations. (America) The United States influenced Latin America to overthrow the government because they wanted to be able to have a more stable economy and political stability. “Many Latin American army leaders had gained fame and power during their long struggle for independence. They often continued to assert their power. They controlled the new nations as military dictators.” (World) The Caribbean was greatly influenced by the United States because they worked together, trying to make a profit off of the railroads, mines, and public works. The two allies resulted in making over $100 million together and used it to produce even more transportation and working sites. After a while, the United States realized that there was still land to claim, but other countries were trying to beat them to it. The United States requested assistance from Latin America but resulted in a rejection because they didn’t want anymore to do with them. The United States and the countries who were fighting for the remaining land eventually agreed to an organization that allowed encouraging trade and cultural exchanges throughout the land, which allowed them to “share” the …show more content…

The people of the United States benefited the most from the Panama Canal because of its success and technology research increase. The Panama Canal also increased the transportation issues, which were the traveling time and the amount of resources that could be trade. (America) The canal may have had high expenses, but the amount of loans Latin America had to pay back kept them profitable.The wealthier classes would most likely say that the imperialization impacted their lives in a positive way because of the special treatment they got from the government. The poor classes, or the laborers on the other hand, wanted more rights as citizens and were treated poorly by the government, which made them angry and fought for independence. The more the United States imperialized, the more the Latin Americans wanted freedom from them and disliked when America considered themselves “more superior” and more successful than the Latin American territories. (World) Without the increase in technology, the Panama Canal never would’ve been built properly and the United States wouldn’t have been as successful because they never would’ve finished the canal route in Panama, which would’ve ended up being demolished and been a complete waste of time.
