Throughout the world, many people debate about what the definition of a patriot is. Some refer it to as the love of country and willingness to sacrifice for it, while others, and believe that being a patriot means to love your country, but also take advantage of your liberties and point out when something might be wrong. It’s like a disease that every man carries. It spreads from one soul to the next like an unstoppable wildfire. Recently, our country has gone through a very tumultuous period. The War in Iraq, the faltering economy, and terrorism have made people very tense about what direction our country is heading. In particular the war in Iraq brought out many different opinions and many of them were against the action our government took. These people were often ridiculed by members of the right and talk radio as being un-patriotic. Throughout the film, it shows the scenery, clothing worn by the characters and the guns that they used as well. This was a major role in keeping the film true to the Revolutionary period in American history. Although characters such as Benjamin Martin and his family are fictional, there are many pieces that are essential to the film’s plot that are true. Certain events such as the battles, and people are illustrated in throughout the movie for historical accuracy. The restriction on civil liberties was a major factor prompting Americans to rebel. The movie portrays the colonists’ rebellion against the British as a way of leaving injustice. During the movie, the main character Benjamin Martin, spoke in front of all the people and told them “If you mean by patriot, am I angry about taxation without representation, well, yes I am.
