Resulting in the reader not being able to actually read about beowulf’s mission, leading to not giving the reader a actual idea of how strongly he would be able to destroy his opponents. On the other hand, Beowulf's ego is demonstrated well in his poem named after himself, and the very detailed description made by the author when describing the horrific battle between beowulf and grendels mother. He is made out to be this strong brave man who can not be harmed in order to boost his appearance and ego.

Beowulf is a strong warrior and leader, the bravest of all men, whose commitment to fighting evil not only saved the lives of many men, but also his own. Beowulf showed his strength in the battle with Grendel when he tore Grendel’s entire arm off with his bare hands, “twisted in pain, and the bleeding sinews deep in his shoulder snapped, muscle and bone split and broke” (Raffel 525-528).
In the beginning, Beowulf was introduced as a young and powerful warrior whose heroism is defined by his great strength.
In the poem of “Beowulf” translated by Burton Raffel, the conflict between Good and Evil is fully established by the description of the characters and their actions. In this poem, the protagonist Beowulf represented the hero and the antagonist Grendel represented the monster. The feature of the two characters is mostly distinguished by the translator’s description. Beowulf was invincible in his strength. He battles terrifying monster and risks his life. He showcases his heroic stoicism through his super-human physical strength. An epic hero is an individual who must evoke a sense of heroism through legendary and inspiring deeds (Merriam-Webster). These heroes of tragedy have the ability to determine their own fortune due to the amount of admired characteristics they possess. However, the ideals of an epic hero are constantly fluctuating due to the ever changing ideals of society. Although the characteristics of an epic hero are under constant modification, Beowulf is still an effective modern-day hero due to his acts of courage, compassion, and dedication in relation to his people. Courage can be defined as any individual possessing moral or mental strength in the face of physical pain or indescribable hardship (Personalitytutor).
Beowulf embodies many universal societal heroic values that are signified in the modern world like courage, bravery, and strength. In the poem, Beowulf displays courage. “Now, I mean to be a match for Grendel, settle the outcome in single combat” (Heaney 425-426). This quote shows courage because he’s telling them that he can fight Grendel and wants to weather he wins or loses.

The stages go in the order: 1) The Call to Adventure, 2) Assistance, 3) Departure, 4) Trials, 5) Approach to the Inmost Cave, 6) Crisis, 7) Treasure, 8) Result, 9) Return, 10) New Life, 11) Resolution, and 12) Status Quo (Winkler). Beowulf had achieved his goal of fame, a goal which had created a poem of a hero that birthed and shaped a story to be told even years later. Furthermore, Beowulf’s fame was set in stone by Hrothgar, the king who owed Beowulf his everything, including his thanks. After giving Beowulf the speech to further glorify his prominence, Hrothgar declares, “Glory is now yours/
