The Greatest Hero
BATMAN, saves many people on board when Joker wants to bomb the boats they’re in. SPIDER-MAN saves NYC when the Green Goblin came to attack. And BEOWULF, Beowulf risks HIS life to save his people. He is very similar to superheroes in today’s world but, Beowulf is to be considered the very first and greatest hero of them all. Beowulf exemplifies the characteristics of a Modern Day Hero. No matter how many years between The Anglo Saxon Period to today, Beowulf somehow managed to accomplish very similar characteristics of a Modern day hero.

Beowulf is a true hero showing no fear and selflessly volunteering himself to fight Grendel for killing men in Herot with his, “Hell-forged hands,” and accomplished victory, “A prince of the Geats, had killed Grendel. Ended the grief, the sorrow, the suffering forced on helpless people by a bloodthirsty fiend. No Dance doubted the Victory,” (404-408). Continuously, Beowulf puts himself into more danger, risking his life. Struggling he fights Grendel’s mother for killing Aeschere, “Angry; the steel-edged blade lay where he 'd dropped it. If weapons were useless he 'd use his hands, the strength in his fingers. So fame comes to the men who mean to win it and care about nothing else!” (505-509). Lastly, Beowulf demonstrates braveness when he encounters with the dragon. He doesn’t give up just like the rest of the superheroes, ““Then Beowulf rose, still brave, still strong, and with his shield at his side, and a mail shirt on his breast, strode calmly, confidently, toward the tower, under the rocky cliffs: no coward could have walked there!” …show more content…
On the other hand, Beowulf boasts about himself and his accomplishments. Beowulf knows he is the greatest and he wants to let us know that he is the greatest. He frequently boasts about himself and it’s just incredible, ““Listen! I 've stood on these cliffs longer than you know...seeking our lives and our gold.”(154-157). Other times he boasts about his accomplishment or his challenging adventures that he has accomplished, ““They have seen my strength for themselves, Have watched me rise from the darkness of war, Dripping with my enemies blood. I drove five great giants into chains, chased all of that race from the earth. I swam in the blackness of night, hunting monsters out of the ocean, and killing them one by one; death was my errand and the fate they had earned.” (246-254). This is an attribute that really shows how Beowulf s so powerful and determined.
Beowulf, being the first and the greatest hero of them all, he definitely sets high standards for a superhero demonstrating his super strength, his bravery and selflessness, and last but not least his boasting. Sacrificing his life to the very end gives him the honor for being the greatest because he just wanted the best for his people 's safety from all
