The movie was following the same story although there were some differences between the two. Such as the fight with Grendel, how Beowulf is portrayed, and Grendel didn’t want to kill the Danes because they didn’t do anything to hurt Grendel. Some similarities are The first differences are with the characters, Hrothgar, in the book he was a noble king who would do the best he can, while in the movie they portrayed him as a fat lazy drunk who always partied with his people. In the book Beowulf ripped Grendel’s arm off with his bare hands but in the movie he tied a chain around his arm and slammed the door ripping his arm off to defeat Grendel. When Grendel’s mom attacks, Beowulf and his men travel down to her lair and have to defeat three sea monsters but after the first monster is slayed the other two run off. But in the movie the lair is deserted and Beowulf goes by himself. After Grendel’s mom was slayed Beowulf brought Grendel’s head and the hilt from the giant’s sword back to Herot. But in the movie Grendels mom takes his head off, which is the only thing that Beowulf brings back. And last is the dragon which Beowulf feels he needs to slay to die a hero because it is attacking the geats, the reason it is attacking is beacause it is the son of Hrothgar.
