Did you know it has a similarities and differences between Beowulf poem and the movie? Beowulf story is the story about man called Beowulf fight with monsters. In the Beowulf poem and movie, there are similarities and differences in Gender role, The behavior of the hero, and themes which reflect the values of both Anglo saxon and modern society.
The first example of the similarity and difference in the poem and the movie is regarding gender role. Similarity in both poem and the movie is women don’t have a name, like a Grendel’s mother. In the movie when Beowulf’s soldier got killed, Hrothgar say killed by “Grendel’s mother”. He didn’t say the name because she doesn't have a name. Similarity in both poem and the movie is Beowulf story is about Beowulf fight with monsters. In the poem and the movie Beowulf fight with three monster, it was Grendel, Grendel’s mother, and Dragon. In the movie he didn’t kill Grendel’s mother but he still fight. Difference between poem and the movie is main themes of the story. On the poem shows fighting between good and evil, but on the movie shows the history repeating itself. In the poem shows fighting between good and evil, it was Beowulf vs monsters. In the poem Beowulf kill three monster and make a peace world, but in the movie main point was history repeating itself. Key person is the Grendel’s mother, people go to kill Grendel’s mother always can’t kill her and make kid with her, and that kid become a monster. The monster called Grendel is the Hrothgar’s son, in old age he go to kill Grendel’s mother but he can’t. And in the movie Beowulf go to kill Grendel’s mother but he can’t kill too, and the monster called Dragon that Beowulf kill in the movie is his son. And at last Wiglaf meet to Grendel’s mother and movie was end. If history repeating itself Wiglaf also did same thing, but if history can change Wiglaf can change the history by kill Grendel’s
